Do not be surprised if the price of the iPhone is expensive though its hardware manufacturing cost just under 2 million dollars only. Price iPhone (and other smartphones) are often associated with high soaring existing licenses in the platform or application. As was the case in the latest iPhone operating system, which is iOS6. Apple had to pay 21 million dollars just to design the clock in iOS6 they use.
It all started with a protest filed by the Swiss Federal Railway, or also known as SBB (train service in Switzerland) in september yesterday. SBB object to the design of hours in iOS6 is too similar to the design of artificial wall clock SBB employee Hans Hilfiker, in 1944 ago. Design wall clock is used throughout the Swiss railway station.
Hilfiker design has been included in the Museum of Modern Art New York and London Design Museum, and has become a symbol of Swiss punctuality. The design has also been licensed to Mondaine, a leading watch company in Switzerland.
This makes Apple ended up having to pay a license to the SBB, which is reportedly worth up to 21 Million Dollars or approximately 199.5 Billion Rupiah!
