Ubuntu is Now Inserted Ads From Amazon

anonical has now started to include advertising Amazon in Unity Dash of Ubuntu 12.10. Unity Dash that was previously used to search for applications or files on Ubuntu, now also includes "More Suggestions" which contains advertisements of various products from Amazon.

For example, when you search for apps Empathy, then in the "More Suggestions" will be shown as well as various self help products related to empathy. The product can be an ebook, video, etc.

Ubuntu Kini Disisipi Iklan Amazon Secara Default

If there Ubuntu users who buy from the link, then Canonical as the Ubuntu developers will get a "piece" of the Amazon (affiliate commissions).

This is done by Canonical to boost their income, which will be used again to develop the operating system Ubuntu.

There are so many pros and cons about this. Most users do not like Ubuntu with Canonical's decision to include advertising in Ubuntu Unity Dash. Even many who "threatened" to leave this popular linux distro if Canonical does not remove these ads from Dash by default.

Like it or not and like it or not .. advertising can not be separated in the era of the internet as it is today. Almost all of the products or services may continue to live free because it is supported by advertising.

Canonical has actually also provides freedom for Ubuntu users who do not want to interfere with this ad. Users can turn off the "ad" with:

terminal

Open Terminal and run this code:

sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping

or

Software Center

Run the Software Center and search for "unity-lens-shopping". Then click Remove.

Software development is costly, especially the development of the operating system. Without considerable cost, it would be very difficult for Ubuntu to compete with pay operating systems like Windows and Mac OS. I still faithfully use Ubuntu LTS 12:04 that does not have ads on its Unity Dash.
